Donating or recycling used clothes can benefit individuals and communities in need. Organizations and charities often distribute recycled clothing to people who cannot afford new garments. Recycling can help address issues of clothing poverty and support social causes.
Recycling used clothes helps reduce the environmental impact associated with textile production. It conserves resources such as water, energy, and raw materials, including cotton and synthetic fibers. By recycling clothes, we can decrease the demand for new textiles and reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills or incinerators.
The fashion industry produces a significant amount of waste, with clothing often discarded after minimal use. Recycling used clothes extends their lifespan, preventing them from becoming waste. It reduces the amount of textiles sent to landfills, which can take years to decompose and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental problems.

New regulation producer responsibility for packaging
On January 1, 2023, the regulation (2022:1274) on producer responsibility for packaging entered into force. In addition to the regulation, changes have been made to the waste regulation (2020:614) which deals with packaging waste. The rules should make it easier for businesses to sort and dispose of their packaging waste.
